In Italy!!!!

So since I've been MIA from this blog for the past few months I feel like you deserve to know where I've been. I graduated from college (undergrad) the third weekend in May and ever since its been a whirlwind of packing, shopping, working, and traveling! I'm in Milan right now until July! It's an amazing experience and I could not be more thankful that I have the chance to study abroad here! We've seen some incredible things.

I've been posting on another blog which I created for an assignment and I need some followers ( the more followers the more likely I am to get a great grade!) So, if everyone on here could follow me I'd greatly appreciate it! Check out my new posts at coffeeandglitterintitaly.blogspot.com

Gratzie!

Pinterest Challenge #4: Drawer Organizers

I'm running a bit behind on my Pinterest Challenge posts... the goal was to pick 6 pins and actually complete them in 6 weeks.  I'm on Pin number 4 and I'm pretty sure it's been about 8 weeks but at least I'm still working on it?!

This pin was drawer organizers made out of reused cardboard boxes which I found here.  They were actually harder than I thought. but they turned out pretty cute!

I would recommend using wrapping paper rather than scrapbook paper for anyone who wants to try this though.  The scrapbook paper didn't bend as easily as I would have liked it to and was super difficult to line up properly ( I'm a bit of a perfectionist.) BUT they still turned out extra cute!

Now I just need to make a few more because apparently I underestimated the amount of "stuff" in my desk drawer!

Reuse: Beer Bottles

So, if theres one thing college students have no shortage of it's leftover beer bottles.  Rather than throwing them away, I decided to reuse them.

We all know I have an obsession with glitter so... Glitter + beer bottles = adorable vases

I used painters tape to tape off where I didn't want the glitter.  Then I used mod podge and sprinkled glitter on top of it.  I reused the exces glitter by rolling the bottles in it to get any of the spots I missed.  ( The first two on the left were a wine-fueled experiment... ignore the uneven-ness.)

What have you reused recently?

The "Story of Stuff"

My Ethics professor is constantly challenging the way we think about things and presenting us with  controversial and affective information.  The other day, in referance to corporations and consumption, he showed us this video.

This video made me question every choice I've made up to this point including my major, my spending habits, and my future career.  I definitely encourage you to watch the whole thing.  It drastically impacted my view on life and how how I'll be making decisions from this point forward.

Did the video have as much of an impact on your way of thinking as it did on mine?

What's In Your Purse?

I'm linking up with Carly from Lipgloss and Crayons for a "What's in your Purse?" post.  I change purses so a lot of times things get left out or forgotten but there's a few things that I absolutely can't live without.

1. Stella & Dot Wristlet 2. Mini hair brush 3. Lilly Pulitzer Agenda
4. Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing sheets 5. Sunglasses
6. Listerine Mints 7. mark. Anti-Acne Concealer 8. Sephora Eyeliner in Black
9. Burt's Bee's Chapstick

What's in your purse?

Pinterest Challenge #3: Frugal

So as some people know I'm going to Milan this summer for a Study Abroad trip for school. I've been trying to save money since I found out but nothing really worked for me. Until I found the $5 challenge on Pinterest. Every time you get a $5 bill you put it in the jar and eventually it starts to add up. Good in theory right? For someone who rarely ever carries cash it's not as good as it sounds. In the past month that I've been doing it I've saved $10 and some change (I don't spend the change so I've been throwing it in the mason jar too.)

I've got about 2 months until Study Abroad so it'll be interesting to see if I can keep up with the savings plan. I'll be content if I can at least save a little bit if spending money for while I'm there!

Do you have any money-saving tips for college students who are already broke?

Fashion Forecasting (aka arts & crafts time)

So as a fashion merchandising major we're required to take a fashion forecasting course.  Basically, the point of the course is to predict future trends and figure out how to implement them for a specific target market.

In other words, we spent a whole lot of time cutting pictures out of magazines and gluing them to poster board.  I'm super proud of these boards so I decided to put them on here.

The first one is a consumer style board.  The goal was to put together a board based on a consumer which we interviewed outside of class.  We included lifestyle pictures, textiles, colors, fashion, home decor, and celebrity inspiration.  This information was then translated to our style board ( below).

The style board also served as an organizational tool for color schemes as well.

We pulled the textiles from the style board to create a textile board ( also organized based on color scheme).

Finally, we pulled the colors from these textiles to create a color board with Pantone colors and numbers.
All of the boards were centered around Spring 2013 trends.  See any that actually came true?

Pinterest Challenge #2 : Food

For my second attempt at one of my pins for the Pinterest Challenge I tried the crockpot meatballs.  They were super easy. I literally just had to throw together 3 ingredients (meatballs, jelly, and chilli sauce) in a crockpot and let it sit for 6 hours. (I stirred it like twice the entire time it was in there.)

They turned out awesome but I totally forgot to take pictures before, after, and during. Sorry!

My roommate and I decided they were delicious when served with white rice for anyone who may be trying this out!

Pinterest Challenge #1 : Hair

I probably should've tried one of these a whole lot sooner but better late than never right? So I'm participating in a Pinterest challenge and I'm trying 6 pins from my Pinterest boards for the next six weeks.

The first one was kind of a failure... Not completely but pretty close.  I tried this hairstyle. Here's my results.

Mine's a bit messier and you can totally see the sock in that one part but I don't think it turned out terribly bad. Right?

Who are you... really?

This term I am taking an Ethics of Business Leadership class and for the first assignment our teacher asked us to write a journal entry about who we are.  He wanted us to dig deeper than the typical "I'm a student who lives in Charlotte." and write about our aspirations and examine ourselves.  Usually, I would hate an assignment like this but I actually took something away from the assignment so I figured I would share it here.

Who are you?

“Who are you… really?” That is an incredibly difficult question to answer.  I am a Senior Fashion Merchandising major at Johnson & Wales University but I am also a daughter, a sales associate, a niece, a friend, and a cousin.  I am a girl who is struggling to figure out what I want to do with the rest of my life.  I am someone who drinks way too much caffeine and I’m someone who can hold a grudge.  I’m easily overwhelmed and feel like I probably bit off more than I can chew this term with school and work. I want the same things all people want, to love and be loved, and a successful and satisfying career that I love.  I have a tendency to rely on others to help me make important life decisions but I have a mind of my own which enjoys being challenged.  I’m someone who procrastinates but always gets things done on time.  I like to have a plan and make lists even though I usually don’t have time to complete all the things on my list.  I love being creative and thinking outside of the box.  I enjoy organizing things and making things look pretty and neat.  I love being recognized when I have worked hard on a project and the feeling of accomplishment.  Sometimes I question my choices in life but I, also, believe that everything happens for a reason.  I need to have a plan and stay on track or life begins to stress me out.  I have problems living in the moment because I am always looking ahead at the future.  I have a lot to be thankful for in my life and I don’t usually take the time to appreciate what I have. I have flaws but nobody is perfect and I’m finally beginning to realize that.

Pinterest Challenge

Hey all!

I have an addiction to Pinterest... not an "I have to pin or I'm going to die" kind of addiction but more of an " I lose hours pinning things I never try" kind of addiction. So, in an effort to actually TRY some of the pins I have on my 34 boards (at least I'm organized about it?) I'm going to take Merrick's, from Merrick's Art, Pinterest Challenge.  I'll pick 6 pins and over the next 6 weeks I'm going to try to make them all a reality. Hopefully by posting it here it will hold me accountable to stick with it.
